Austin Board of REALTORS Endorse Cid Galindo for City Council
The Austin Board of REALTORS sent an alert last week to encourage agents to vote for Austin city council candidate Cid Galindo.
Galindo faces Laura Morrision in a runoff that ends on June 14th. The main point of contention is the recent Point of Sale Ordinance that is part of the Mayor Wynn’s Climate Protection Plan.

REALTORS support the Climate Protection plan, but oppose the specific provision that requires upgrades before an Austin home sale is completed. REALTORS think this will increase Austin real estate sales times, hampering home sales and causing grief to Austin home buyers and sellers.

The board sent this alert to Austin REALTORS.
Galindo is the ABOR endorsed candidate running for Place 4 of the Austin City Council.Galindo opposes Point of Sale and has pledged to support our industry if elected. A Point of Sale Ordinance will never come to a vote by the public, so this is your opportunity to vote against Point of Sale. Support the candidate that supports your industry by getting out the vote for Cid Galindo.
Galindo’s opponent, Laura Morrison, was on record during ABOR’s April 10th City Council Candidate Forum as supporting mandated upgrades in energy efficiency at the point of sale. Galindo has continued to support this association in our efforts to keep Austin housing affordable by opposing any point of sale ordinance.
Galindo is not without controversy.
Galindo has been fighting to overcome struggles with his campaign from East Austin residents, who complain that Galindo builds overpriced McMansions in their neighborhood.
Laura Morrison, on the other hand, served as President of the Austin Neighborhoods Council.
Both Laura Morrison and Cid Galindo are strong candidates.

Galindo built condos which comply with the spirit and the letter of Morrison’s McMansion Ordinance.
The home Morrison’s living in doesn’t comply with the spirit, and maybe not even the letter, of her own ordinance! More here: http://mdahmus.monkeysystems.com/blog/archives/000504.html

Galindo is the better choice for sure. The real estate market cannot take an additional burden that the point of sale ordinance would create.

In case you haven’t heard! Morrison won the seat. As immediate past president of the Austin Neighborhoods Council, enough people felt that she was the leader they’d like at this time.
